Resident Evil: Veronica Remake Opened SGF 2026 With a Bang - And It Looks Terrifying

Capcom has been on an absolute tear with remakes over the past few years. RE2, RE3, RE4 — each one better than the last. And now they're coming for Code Veronica, arguably the most requested remake in the entire franchise. After watching the SGF 2026 reveal trailer, I can confidently say: they're nailing it.
Resident Evil: Veronica drops Claire Redfield back into one of the series' most brutal and emotionally complex stories. The original Code Veronica from 2000 was divisive — some fans loved it, others felt it was a step down from RE2. But in the context of a modern remake with RE Engine, the gothic atmosphere of Rockfort Island and the Antarctic facility looks genuinely breathtaking and horrifying in equal measure.
The trailer showed claustrophobic corridors lit by flickering emergency lights, mutated enemies that look far more disturbing than anything in the original, and Claire looking absolutely capable of handling all of it. Capcom kept gameplay details tight, but the survival horror DNA is clearly intact — this is not going to be an action-forward experience.
One thing that genuinely excited me was the environmental storytelling on display. The original Code Veronica had some of the most memorable set pieces in RE history, and it looks like the remake is expanding on them rather than just faithfully recreating pixel-for-pixel.
Resident Evil: Veronica is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X, Switch 2, and PC in 2027. Mark your calendars — this is going to be something special.
